All vinyl car wraps require removal and replacement every five years. It's vital to handle the process carefully in order to avoid damaging the car's paint.
We have perfected the process in removing old vinyl wraps from cars.
Preparation
We begin by making sure the vehicle is clean and dry. Dirt can scratch the paint during the removal process.
We use top of the line tools to assist in the removal process, including heat guns, plastic blade tools, top of the line removal solution, clay bar and wax.
Heating the Vinyl
We always start by heating a small section of the vinyl with our heat gun. The vinyl must be warmed to temperatures of 120℉, which is the ideal temperature for softening the adhesive without damaging the paint.
We check the temperature that is digitally shown on our heating guns constantly to avoid overheating, as overheating can harm both the vinyl and the car's surface.
Peeling off the Vinyl
We start at a corner or edge of the vinyl, then use a vinyl removal tool to gently lift the vinyl from the car's surface. We then slowly pull the vinyl away at a 45-degree angle.
It's harder than it looks, as we must use even pressure to prevent the vinyl from tearing. Sometimes we stop and apply more heat as necessary, moving the heat gun back and forth to keep the section warm while slowly peeling it away.
Residue Removal
Sometimes adhesive residue remains on the paint once all the vinyl is removed. So we apply an adhesive remover to any areas where we find residue.
Cleaning and Final Inspection
We go over the whole vehicle with microfiber cloths to ensure all residues are removed. We use a clay bar to remove any remaining impurities from the paint surface. We'll then wax to protect the paint.
